MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — Darrin Palumbo, Chairman of the Marco Island City Council, has announced his candidacy for re-election, seeking another term to continue protecting the city’s financial strength, environment and quality of life.

Palumbo and his wife, Suzanne, have called Marco Island home for 28 years and raised their children, Jenna and Ryan, on the island. A small business owner, real estate professional and longtime community volunteer, he brings more than 35 years of business experience to public service.

“Marco Island has been one of the greatest gifts my family has ever received, and serving on City Council has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Palumbo said. “I am seeking another term because experience matters, and there is still important work ahead.”

During his first term, Palumbo worked with fellow council members, city staff and community partners to strengthen the city’s financial future, improve water quality, protect the environment and support public safety.

Marco Island continues to maintain one of Florida’s lowest municipal tax rates while providing exceptional city services and earning an AA bond rating. Palumbo also supported the implementation of Advanced Wastewater Treatment, helped return Conservation Collier funding to Marco Island to preserve environmentally sensitive land and helped secure millions of dollars in Tourist Development Tax funding for beach nourishment.

As Chairman, he collaborated with the Audubon Society to eliminate rodenticides on municipal properties, helping protect Marco Island’s burrowing owls and other wildlife. He remains a steadfast supporter of maintaining a dedicated Marco Island Police Department.

If re-elected, Palumbo will continue prioritizing clean water, fiscal responsibility, resilient infrastructure, public safety and the protection of Marco Island’s neighborhoods and unique character.

“Leadership is not measured by campaign promises. It is measured by results,” Palumbo said. “Every decision I make is guided by one question: Will this leave Marco Island better for the next generation?”

Palumbo owns Sweet Annie’s Ice Cream Parlour, which employs more than 40 local high school and college students each year. His community service includes more than 24 years as a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentor, coaching youth athletics and helping raise more than $200,000 for youth athletics and academics.

“I am proud of what we have accomplished together, but I believe Marco Island’s best days are still ahead,” Palumbo said.
